Back in action – Shape 08: Sharepoint Web Content Management and Silverlight 2 Webparts consuming SharePoint WebServices

Wow – I just realized it has been more than a year since I've posted my last post here. No, I haven't been out of business – even though that would probably be a great idea. Simply – there is too much to do and so little time to really think about it and share it with others.

As I'm going to hold a speech about SharePoint at the Swiss Shape08 conference and I found many things I could post about during the preparations of this event, I've decided to create a series of posts to share my best practices with the community and at the same time use it to post all the source code of my project.

What am I going to cover in the next posts:

  • Create a publishing site that can be deployed as a feature (nothing new , but still tricky and I will post the working example of the Shape08 Website as a whole)
  • How to work with the Visual Studio 2008 Extensions for SharePoint 1.3 to deploy custom site definitions including layouts & styles as well as Silverlight WebParts.
  • Ho to create a Silverlight 2 Webpart that consumes the SharePoint List-Webservices (_vti_bin/Lists.asmx)

My example is to re-create and even trying to improve the Shape08 website – so you will have a concrete, near-real-life example including the full source code.

Looking forward to hearing from you – i spent quite a lot of time trying to follow all possible best practices. If you see something that could be done more elegantly – please let me know!
